Part independent bookstore, part neighbourhood bar, part cultural hub and event space, Book Bar offers a welcoming and unhurried “third place” for reading, conversation and connection.
The idea of a combined bookstore and bar was conceived by owners Tom Freeman and Robin Storfer to create a venue defined by the joy and support they found at informal book clubs hosted in the homes of family and friends. To bring that experience to life for a larger community, they partnered with DesignAgency and our brand consultancy StudioDA to craft the brand strategy and shape every aspect of the experience.
The integrated team identified three core principles that distinguish Book Bar: comfort, connection and character. Every aspect of the interior design, branding, and guest experience flows from this foundational framework, delivering a destination in the heart of Toronto’s newly revitalized Mirvish Village that brings people together in a distinct and welcoming atmosphere infused with personality and purpose. Through this synergy of design and intent, Book Bar is positioned as a place with both deep cultural impact and strong commercial value

For Thinkers & Drinkers
Inspired by Book Bar’s intimate kitchen party origins, our design includes custom bookshelves, subtle curves, cozy banquettes, and counter-height bars that create a space that feels layered and familiar.

Throughout, romantic details — like the scalloped trim around the downstairs seating area, plus select surfaces upholstered in textiles patterned with dreamy landscape motifs — reward close reads of every corner.
