Originally conceived for the 1873 World’s Fair, the landmark building that houses Anantara Palais Hansen Vienna has long been a stage for spectacle. In May 2025, the luxury hotel began a new chapter following a transformative renovation by DesignAgency, which breathes fresh life into the property’s 152 guest rooms and suites, its collection of culinary destinations, and its expansive 800-square-metre spa and wellness sanctuary.

At the heart of the design is a dialogue between Vienna’s storied past and its dynamic present. Late 19th-century Secessionist motifs are reinterpreted through a contemporary lens, creating spaces that feel both timeless and unexpected. The lobby unfolds like a hidden garden within the city: layered, intimate, and alive with energy. Beneath an art nouveau-inspired canopy, the bar hums as the venue’s social heartbeat—a place where people come together, and where memorable moments unfold.

Upstairs, understated guest rooms offer a sense of retreat, distinguished by details and the exceptional comfort they offer. Soft textures, quiet palettes, and thoughtful craftsmanship come together to create a sense of calm sophistication.

More than a revitalisation, DA’s work on Anantara Palais Hansen Vienna represents a dramatic reimagination of the property. It marks a defining moment for the brand, establishing its first Austrian property as a destination where history, design and modern travel converge harmoniously.
